Cody Riggs               Down to Five

                        By Jesse McCormack/ThaRinger.Com
                                        June 29th, 2009

Cody Riggs, a cornerback for Saint Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, is one of the most wanted recruits in the state of Florida,   if not the southeast. Monday night, the talented prospect went in depth with ThaRinger.Com on his favorites, a decision timeline, and more.

Riggs plays in a secondary at St. Thomas Aquinas High School that is easily the best in the country, alongside supremely talented Lamarcus Joyner, Keion Payne, and Brian Robinson.

“Well everybody knows Lamarcus, it’s fun playing with him because he’s a high energy guy,” Riggs said. “And we have a lot of fun when he’s at receiver. When we do 1 on 1s, it’s fun because it’s not often you go against a guy that’s faster and could run by me.”

Who does Riggs think his play resembles?

“Well, I think a play a lot like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. (Arizona Cardinals cornerback) even though he messed up in the Super Bowl.” Riggs described. “He’s a young player and I think I play a lot like him. He has a lot of speed so he can gamble on a lot of plays.”

As far as recruiting goes, Riggs has a Top 5 and described to ThaRinger.com what he like about each school.

Georgia: “They’re probably my top school right now. I got along with the coaches really well, they’re laid back, religious and care about the kids. I like the facilities, everything’s brand new over there and it’s a small town but the people really love football.”

Florida: “They were the National Champions, they have a lot of talent on the team. I know Major (Wright) and I talk to him, he says it’s a good place to be. I like a lot about Florida.”

Notre Dame: “One of the reasons why I like Notre Dame is because of coach Corwin Brown. He’s the first person to talk to me from there and he’s a real good coach. He knows what he’s talking about and he’s been there done that.”

Tennessee: “Of course they have Monte Kiffin and the Tampa 2, he knows a lot about football. He basically invented one of the greatest defenses ever. They have a young staff and my brother (Gerald Riggs Jr.) who played at Tennessee said it’s an exciting place to be on game day.”

Florida State: “They were my favorite team growing up, and they have a good coaching staff, a lot of history there and they put a lot of players in the NFL.”

Riggs knows what he’s looking for in the perfect college, and has a good idea as to when he’s going to make his decision.

“A coaching staff I can talk to cause I’m going to be away from home for 4 years,” Riggs explained. “An exciting environment to play in, good academics, and coaches that know what they’re doing as far as taking players to the next level. I plan on taking all my official visits to my top five and it (my commitment) will be after my last official visit most likely, but I don’t know when that last official visit will be because I haven’t set them up yet.”

Riggs comes in at #128 on the TR Top 300 for the class of 2010.
