Greg Townsend Jr. of Beverly Hills (CA) High School is regarded as one of the
top prospects on the West Coast for the Class of 2011. The big defensive end
currently stands at 6’4” 250 and comes from NFL bloodlines as his father, TCU
alum Greg Townsend Sr., is a 15 year NFL veteran.
“My biggest strengths are my size and I have a lot of moves in my arsenal,” he
says.
Greg burst on the scene last summer at USC’s Rising Stars camp with a dominant
showing, then followed up his performance from the summer with an impressive
junior season in which he recorded 73 tackles, 7.5 sacks, forced 3 fumbles,
blocked 3 PATs and recovered a fumble. He hopes to improve on those numbers for
his senior year.
“My goals are to get 10+ sacks and 80+ tackles and to win.”
He has 8 offers so far: USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Oregon, Miami
and Washington.
“The top 3 are USC, UCLA and Oregon. I like USC and UCLA because they’re close
to home and I like Oregon because I went up there and I like how it’s a college
town and I like their facilities and their coaching staff. I guess Oregon is
recruiting me the hardest.”
Townsend plans on making the rounds again this summer to put his talent on
display.
“I’m going to the Nike Combine, the Scout Combine, then I’m going to the UCLA
and USC camps.”
He plans to take his time and is not in any hurry to commit, “I plan on doing it
around Signing Day.”
Greg is rated as a 6.0/4 star prospect in TR’s early 2011 projections.
