Close to a decision?
June 24th, 2009
Jones, a tight end prospect from Memphis, Tennessee, is one of the foremost TE
prospects in the country, and has some of the top colleges in the nation vying
for his services.
The dual purpose TE excelled this past season for his Evangelical Christian
School team that finished with record of 7-3.
Jones, who currently stands 6’4, 230 pounds, knows what sets him apart from the
average high school tight end.
“I’m really pretty big compared to most high school players.” Jones said.
Recruiting wise, Jones has offers from Alabama, Oklahoma, North Carolina,
Vanderbilt, Florida State, Stanford, and Arkansas.
Jones insists he doesn’t have a leader, but does offer a little bit on some of
his favorite schools.
“Alabama, I grew up a fan, my brother plays there and my dad played there. Nick Saban’s a great coach who’s going to win games and it’s a great program.” Jones
“For North Carolina, it’s a good area, good academics, great coaches and I have
a lot in common with them.”
“Oklahoma, they’re a good team, they dominate the Big 12, their Tight Ends coach
is their offensive coordinator and I got a chance to sit down watch them and
their real cool” said Jones.
Jones is also an excellent student, and it’s no surprise that prestigious
academic schools like Vanderbilt and Stanford are recruiting him.
“I’m doing pretty well (grades wise).” Jones said. “I got a 29 on the ACT and
have about a 3.5 GPA.”
As for the recruiting process, Jones isn’t necessarily to fond of it.
“Honestly, I don’t like it (the recruiting process) very much.” Said Jones. “ I
just want to make my decision and get it over with.”
He plans to make that decision “in the next couple of weeks” and may visit
Alabama and North Carolina before making his commitment. Jones currently comes
in at #7 in ThaRinger's initial state of Tennessee rankings.
