Smith
Happy With Tennessee

Speed rushing
defensive end Jacques Smith committed to Tennessee on February 4th and he hasn’t
looked back since. He was the first commitment for Lane Kiffin’s staff at
Tennessee for their 2010 recruiting class, and he may end up being the best.
Smith, who is from Ooltewah, Tennessee, is currently 6’2 ¼, 238 pounds.
He is notorious for playing with a high motor, and being a team player. His
Ooltewah team went to the state Semi Finals last year.
What separates Smith, who has been clocked as low as 4.6 in the forty yard dash,
from other defensive ends?
“Probably my quickness off the ball.”
While some recruits waiver on their commitment, Smith made his decision, and seems
more than content with the school that he chose.
“I’m Tennessee all way. They were the first school to recruit me and I grew up a
Tennessee fan. They’re also close to home and I’ve been to almost every game
since my sophomore year.”
Smith also has a very positive outlook on how he thinks the Vols and their new
coaching staff will fare this upcoming season.
“I think they’ll have one of the best defenses in the country , probably a top
three defense and a top three sec team. I don’t wanna push it yet, but wouldn’t be
surprised if they were in the SEC championship game also.”
Smith plans to enroll early, and is looking forward to playing with current
Tennessee defensive end Chris Walker. He is being recruited by most schools as
DE/Linebacker and says that Georgia came in second for his services, but has
since cut off all contact with them.
