Wayne Lyons2011 Prospect Getting Early Attention

The state of Florida is constantly loaded with talent year in and year out and Wayne Lyons, a safety prospect from Ft. Lauderdale, seems to be one of the early front-runners to be the top prospect in Florida for class of 2011.

Lyons already looks the part, at 6’0, 190 pounds and is only going to get bigger. He led his Dillard High School team to the 2nd round of the playoffs where they lost powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas. They finished with a record of 9-3.

Lyons is also getting used to not only a position change Linebacker to Safety, but also a coaching change as Manny Martin recently became the new head coach at Dillard.
“I learned a lot switching from linebacker to safety.” Said Lyons. “Coach Martin's defensive scheme allows me to float back and forth between the two positions.”

What separates Lyons from most other safety prospects?

“My leadership skills, aggressiveness on the field and nose for the ball”

Though it’s out of the norm for prospect to receive many early offers at this point in the recruiting process, Lyons already claims to have 11 verbal offers.

Is Lyons already developing early favorites?

“No not at this time. When I receive written offers, then I will look into which are my favorites.” Remarked Lyons.

Lyons knows it’s early, and doesn’t plan on making a decision any time soon.

“I’ll probably decide sometime during my senior year.” Lyons said.

When it is time to decide, what will Lyons look for in a college?

“Opportunity to play early and get a great education.” Lyons said. “Academics and athlete's graduation rate are extremely important to me.”

Lyons also said that he doesn’t feel any pressure to stay in state, and that distance won’t play a factor in his final decision.
